Caledonian Railway 13" Mahogany cased fusee drop dial Clock by Winterhalder & Hofmeier of Schwarzenbach Germany. The clock is in excellent working order and the case is retains its original finish however the lenticle window glass is missing , but this is a relatively easy item to replace. The original dial writing reads Caledonian Rail Co and has not been messed around with. The vendor first came across this clock in use at his office in the former North British Hotel in George Square Glasgow, the clock then followed him around throughout his career with British Railways and was purchased upon retirement. A nice pre grouping Scottish clock in untouched condition but In full working order complete with pendulum and key.
GCR arch bridge plate, 374 (83), undamaged and face restored to white and black. From the viaduct just North of Leicester, Central Station.
Single Line steel Key Token EMBLETON - COCKERMOUTH STATION No 18 . Ex Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway which closed in 1966. This particular token, the last section after Bassenthwaite Lake.
GWR Pocket watch by Record with `G.W.R. 0.1406 engraved on rear of case. Complete with Albert and in excellent, undamaged condition. Full working order.
LMS alloy "Hawkseye" station sign HELPSTON. Ex Midland station between Bainton Gate and Walton on the Peterborough to Stamford route. The station opened as Helpstone in 1848 and closed for ever in June 1966.
Single Line alloy Key Token GLYNDYFRDWY - CARROG. Ex GWR section between Corwen and Ruabon. Closed to passengers in 1965, it is now part of the Llangollen Railway.
Brass Worksplate WERKSPOOR 1955. Werkspoor N V Amsterdam. Measures approximately 10" x 3¼".
Original Road Sign, "HILL 1 in 11". Retains original brackets and cast with the makers name `Franco Traffic Signs Ltd.`
Pullman Lamp, un-named or numbered, brass construction standing 20½" tall. Complete with original, pale pink shade.
British Railways Lion-Over-Wheel Emblem mounted on a circular board measuring 23¾" diameter. The vendor has submitted the detail that prior to the introduction in 1956 of this `ferret & dartboard` style logo, a competition was held and sever al hand-crafted, unique designs were submitted for selection. This is one of the prototypes which although not being selected, proudly hung in the office of Mr John Batty who was Assistant Chief Internal Auditor for BR housed in Melrose Street near Marylebone Station. Most certainly a significant piece of BR history.
London Transport enamel Target, small size, OXFORD CIRCUS. Three separate pieces mounted within the original bronze frame with an overall measurement of 17" x 14". Mint condition, mounted on wood for display.
Carriage Print `Leigh-on-Sea, Essex` by Charles King from the LNER post-war series, 1953. At the shore is an old established fishing community. That happens to be the view from the train and Charles King took this for his inspiration. Thankfully a si xties proposal for a seafront relief road to sweep this view away never materialised. A just discernible line on the horizon is Southend Pier. VGC. In original style frame & glazed.
Worksplate `LMS Built 1946 Horwich`. Oval cast iron, clean ex loco condition. Black 5 locos 44944 - 44966 and 44982 - 44990 were built at Horwich in this year.
Smokebox Numberplate 45287. Ex Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 Locomotive, built by Armstrong Whitworth in December 1936 under Works number 1342. Allocations include Bescot, Tyseley, Shrewsbury, Edge Hill, Patricroft and Rose Grove. Made it pretty well until t he very end of steam, indeed it was seen in steam on the 3rd August 1968 at Lostock Hall and was withdrawn from there that very day. Sent to TW Ward Beighton in February 1969 for disposal.
BR(M) enamel `Your Cycle Is Stored At Your Own Risk`, F/F and in very good overall condition.
L&SWR C/I `SHUT THIS GATE`, measuring 18¼" in length together with a L&SWR C/I `PENALTY FOR NOT SHUTTING GATE £2` measuring 30¼" in length.
Midland Railway 12" fusee Clock bearing the name John Smith Midland Clock Works, Queen St. Derby on the face. Totally original condition but the oval numberplate is missing although it can be clearly seen where this was originally affixed. In wo rking order and complete with pendulum and key.
Single Line alloy Key Token CAERSWS - TALERDDIG. Ex Cambrian Railway section between Machynlleth and Newtown.
Carriage Print `Worcester Cathedral` by Frank Sherwin from the Western series. In an original type glazed frame.
M&GN Cast Iron Trespass Notice. In original condition.
GWR Platform Indicator Finger Board `LOCAL TRAIN TO LEAMINGTON SPA`. Almost Certainly ex Honeybourne station.
Worksplate North British Locomotive Company Glasgow No 25876 of 1946, brass diamond. Ex Thompson 4-6-0 B1 Class Locomotive numbered 1120, later 61120. Allocated initially to Doncaster and ending its days at Retford from where withdrawal took place on 31 January 1965. Cut up 2 months later at Marples & Gillots, Sheffield.
Cigarette Platform Vending Machines mounted as a pair. Supplied by National Automatic Machines Ltd. One has a Woodbine advert for 2dt, the other a Capstan Navy Cut for 6d advert. In excellent condition except no accompanying key.
BR(W) Slip Coach Lamp of significant proportions, standing 23" tall. Double bullseye lens, each having the interior reservoirs and burners. The top of the chimney cowl is beautifully brass plated `PADDINGTON`. Excellent condition throughout.
BR-W Signal box diagram LYDNEY CROSSING GROUND FRAME, in ex box rolled condition and dated 12-11-73 Measures 79" x 19¾"
Smokebox Numberplate 3775. Ex GWR 0-6-0PT built July 1938. Ended its days at Gloucester Horton Road from where withdrawal took place. Sold to Cashmore Newport 11/2/66, and taken in for breaking on the 21/3/66.
Nameplate `St. Peter`s School York AD627`, reflective brushed aluminium style. Ex Inter City 125 Locomotive number 43152 named originally at York Station on 05/11/84 by Wing Commander J S P Phillips DFC, former pupil at school and one of the construc tion team of V2 No. 4818 which carried the name of the school from 1939. The naming date was selected as Guy Fawkes was also a pupil at the school. The original, cast nameplates were removed and replaced with this reflective type in June 1991. These were removed again in March 1996 when the locomotive changed operator.
LMS alloy "Hawkseye" station sign BECKFORD. Ex Midland Railway location on the Ashchurch to Evesham route, known as the `Birmingham & Gloucester Loop`, opened 1864 and closed in July 1963.
Nameplate SIR URRE OF THE MOUNT King Arthur Class. Ex Southern Railway `Scotch Arthur`, built by the North British Locomotive Works in September 1925 under works number 23284. Originally numbered 788 and later 30788. Allocations include Nine Elms and Eastleigh. Withdrawn from service in February 1962. Measures 52" in length, face restored, rear ex loco and clearly stamped `788`. From legend, Urre had slain a Spanish earl`s son called Sir Alphegus but in doing so had been severely wounded. Sir Launcelot cured his wounds and in celebration, a joust was held which Urre won and was, as a result, knighted by King Arthur.
Single Line alloy Key Token BALA JUNC - LLANDDERFEL. Ex GWR section between Corwen and Dolgelly, closed December 1964 when flooding washed away the line so pre-empting the scheduled closure of January 1965. A rare token indeed.
GWR C/I Cabside Numberplate 6356. Ex GWR 2-6-0 `Mogul` Class, built Swindon 30th November 1923. Allocations include Cardiff, Newton Abbot and Westbury from where withdrawal took place w/e 12/1/63. Sold to Cashmore Newport on 21/10/63 and taken into b reaker yard 20/6/64. Stamped in top rim with loco class and bottom rim with boiler class. Face restored, rear original.
Totem BR(W) PERSHORE, H/F. Ex GWR (OWWR) station between Evesham and Worcester on the Worcester - Paddington line now known as the Cotswold Line. Together with a framed and glazed WR telephone circuit notice Pershore local May 1953. The station is st ill open and less than ½ mile from this auction venue.
Class 31 Brass instrument plates mounted on a display board. Reputedly ex D5561 which was built in October 1959 and withdrawn in December 1988.
Merchant Navy Nameplate `Wings` from an ex Southern Railway Bulleid Merchant Navy Pacific. One states MERCHANT the other NAVY. Totally original with red background paint, one have much removed. It is known that some nameplates did `lose` their wings in the final days of steam so here is the first opportunity to arise to reunite the missing pieces.
Petrol Globe SUPER SHELL. Light blue background with the word `Super` in dark blue and the word `Shell` in red. Excellent condition, mounted on a wooden stand and wired with a bulb although the cable has been removed to comply with safety regulations .
Advertising enamel Sign, "Wills` Star Cigarettes`` on one side, "Wills`s Wild Woodbine Cigarettes" the other side. Red and black lettering on a white ground both sides. 19½" x 12", in good overall condition but the wall mount ing flange has been flattened out.
Small Folding Chair, similar to a deck chair, containing an Advertising enamel Sign as the seatback `Smoke Piedmont The Cigarette Of Quality`, white lettering on a dark blue ground. Extremely good condition throughout and certainly a novelty.
Advertising enamel Sign `Waterman`s Ideal Fountain Pen`, 20" x 9½". Semi pictorial with an image of the very pen diagonally across the centre. White lettering on red/orange ground with yellow border. In very good condition with just a few s mall chips.
Advertising enamel Sign `Blue Cross Tea`, measuring 44" x 15". Good colour and shine but there are some areas of restoration.
Advertising enamel Sign `Sunny Island Ceylon Tea - Try It`. Measuring 26½" x 54", it is semi pictorial with an oval inset showing a small tropical island with sailing boat, also the makers name Chromo Wolverhampton. Some areas of restoratio n, particularly around the main text but the image seems to be restoration free.
Advertising enamel Sign, "Colman`s Mustard With Our Prime Beef, Mutton etc - and enjoy them more". Some edge restoration. Measures 22" x 14".
Advertising enamel Sign, "Selo Films - The Power Behind the Lens". Double sided hanging sign. Measures 17" x 23". Good colour and shine with minor chipping.
Advertising enamel Sign `Jacob`s Biscuits`. White lettering on blue ground. Minor chipping around bolt holes. This originated from a local shop in Wigan where it adorned a Jacob`s Biscuits display cabinet.
Advertising enamel Sign `Hudson`s Soap - In Packets - In Dozens - All Our Lamp Oil At Lowest Price - All Our Goods Are Reliable`. Yellow top half with red lettering on white and dark blue lower half with white lettering, 24" x 15". Excellen t condition with minor, well executed restoration.
Advertising enamel Sign `Van Houtens Cocoa - Best & Goes Farthest`, 15" x 6". White lettering on brown ground with pictorial image of two tins on the right side. Some expert restoration to top otherwise extremely good.
Advertising enamel Sign `Cadbury`s Cocoa Is Absolutely Pure`. White lettering on maroon ground. Minor defects with expert restoration to left-hand side. Measures 17½" x 6½".
Advertising enamel Sign `Borax Starch Glaze - Improves All Starch - You Cannot Glaze Without It - In Penny Packets Everywhere`. Excellent, pictorial white on dark blue showing the Washerwoman with her shiny white laundry and the image from the packet . Good condition with a few areas of expert restoration, 15" x 10".
Advertising enamel Sign `Rowntree`s Chocolate`. This is the scarce `fancy lettering` example, white on dark blue, 13¾"x 10¾". Some damage around the periphery but good overall.
Advertising enamel Sign `Mazawattee Tea - Recalls The Delicious Teas Of 30 Years Ago`. White lettering on dark blue ground with a lower panel, black lettering on a yellow ground, 12" x12". Good overall condition, not common.
Advertising enamel Sign `Adkin & Son Nut Brown Tobacco London`. Black on white with dome top, 14" x 10". Good overall condition.
Advertising tinplate Sign `Lyon`s Swiss Rolls - The Roll Of Fame With A Famous Name - 1/8 each`, 12" x 12". Mid blue ground with multicoloured text and a chef displaying the famous Roll. Few scratches but nice overall.
Advertising enamel Sign `Buy Hudsons Soap`, strip style with yellow on blue pointing hand each end and title in white. Measures 20" x 3" and is in very good condition.
Advertising enamel Sign `Geo Payne`s GP Tea`. Basically in the shape of the tea packet with black lettering on a white ground with the red tie bow and seal, 17½" x 33". Some edge damage doesn`t` detract.
