Nameplate SIR RALPH VERNEY ex Metropolitan Railway 1200 Hp electric locomotive number 3 Built in

Nameplate SIR RALPH VERNEY ex Metropolitan Railway 1200 Hp electric locomotive number 3 Built in 1921 by Metropolitan-Vickers. Named after Sir Ralph Verney who became Lord Mayor of London in 1645. The Verney family were involved in the building of Ra ilways which became part of the Metropolitan railway around 1900 with Verney Junction taking the family name. The fleet of 20 locos originally carried brass nameplates which were removed for the war effort although some from the class survived. Cast aluminium plates were fitted after the war circa 1955 and the loco was withdrawn on 29/1/62, cut up by Cashmores of Newport within Ruislip depot during May 1965. The other nameplate was presented by LT to the Verney family for display at Claydon House near Bletchley, the house being presented to the National Trust back in 1956. The locomotives were used for trains between The City, Baker Street and Rickmansworth, where steam took over for the journey to Aylesbury. They are by far the oldest named main line electric locos. In face restored condition measures 45.5in x 6in.

Totem BR(E) HF WESTCLIFF-ON-SEA from the former London Tilbury and Southend Railway station

Totem BR(E) HF WESTCLIFF-ON-SEA from the former London Tilbury and Southend Railway station between Leigh-On-Sea and Southend Central. A rare totem that has never appeared at auction before and wasn't known to have survived the mid 1950's resigning o f this station. It is probably the sole survivor as it was acquired by a member of staff. In good condition with a few small chips.
