Nameplate BARRY CASTLE from the GWR Collett Castle Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1948 as order number 367 and numbered 7012. Allocated to Landore, Swindon, Carmarthen, Old Oak Common, Stafford Road and 84B Oxley from where it was withdrawn in Novem ber 1964 and scrapped at Cashmore's Great Bridge. In lightly cleaned condition with R 7012 stamped in the back indicating this is the right hand side plate. Barry Castle was near the town of the same name in South Wales.

Worksplate THE VULCAN FOUNDRY LIMITED NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS LANCASHIRE No 4922 1943, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order in September 1943, WD No, 7106 77106. taken into BR stock in 1949 and numbered 90568. Allocation s included Bury, Patricroft and 26A Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn in January 1964 and scrapped at Crewe Works. Oval cast brass lightly cleaned measures 9.5in x 5.75in.

Smokebox numberplate 5619 ex GWR Collett 0-6-2 T built at Swindon in 1925. Allocated to Abercynon and 88C Barry from where it was withdrawn in June 1964 and preserved and now owned by the Telford Steam Railway and currently on loan to the Llangollen Railway. In as removed condition.
Worksplate KERR STUART & CO LTD No 4378 1927 LONDON & STOKE ex LMS Fowler 4F 0-6-0 numbered LMS 4350 and BR 44350. Allocated to Aston, Nine Elms, Sutton Oak and 12C Barrow in Furness from where it was withdrawn in December 1965 and scrapped a t Motherwell Machinery & Scrap, Wishaw. Oval cast brass, face restored. Comes with original BR receipt.

All 3 in good condition with original black wax infill. Measure 5in x 0.75in. P robably from Stanton Gate on the Erewash Valley line.

Allocated new to 1B Camden and withdrawn from Toton in November 19 80 and scrapped at BREL Derby. Rectangular cast aluminium in face restored condition, measures 13in x 6.5in. One from only a class of 10.
BR-W brass cabside numberplate 8467 ex Hawksworth 0-6-0 PT built by the Yorkshire Engine Co in 1951. Allocated to 87F Llanelly for all of its working life and withdrawn from there in February 1962 and scrapped at Swindon Works. In original condition as stored since 1965.
Nameplate MERSEY VOYAGER ex Virgin DEMU Class 220 220019 built at Bombardier Belgium in 2000. Rectangular cast aluminium in as removed condition, measures 24.5in x 15in.
LNER Great Central pattern 3 Aspect Handlamp stamped in the side LNE-C and brass plated LNE-C 19806 BRACKLEY. In excellent condition, has been lightly restored, complete with all glasses, reservoir, burner and front bullseye lens. Rare to find anythi ng from Brackley.

Worksplate BUILT SWINDON 1958 ex British Railways Diesel Class 03 D2005-2033. Oval cast iron in cleaned condition with the odd specs of BR green paint left and casting number U 240. Measures 10.5in x 6in. Probably from one of the class that was scrap ped at Doncaster works as it was acquired from Doncaster works by the vendors late father who was the Chief Foreman of 4 bay which was the locomotive repair shop and test bays and the stripping shop at British Rail Engineering Ltd.
Nameplate HAYDON HALL ex GWR Collett Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1933 as order number 281 and numbered 5932. Allocated to Swindon, Weymouth, Old Oak Common, Reading, Oxford, Cardiff East Dock, Westbury, Severn Tunnel Junction and 82E Bristol Barrow Road from where it was withdrawn in November 1965 and scrapped the following year at Cashmore's (Newport). In nicely cleaned condition rear stamped LOT No 281 L 5932 indicating this is the left hand plate. The Hall was near Uxbridge Middlesex.

Worksplate LMS BUILT CREWE 1945. Locomotives built at Crewe this year included Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 44861-44871 and 44872-44920. Oval cast iron face restored measures 10.5in x 6in. It could possibly be from 44878 as it came from the same collection as the smokebox numberplate.

Allocated to Weymouth, St Philips Marsh, Bristol Bath Road, Laira, Stafford Road, Pontypool Road, Neath (Court Sart) an d 87F Llanelli from where it was withdrawn in August 1964 and scrapped at R.S. Hayes/Birds, Tremains Yard, Bridgend. In restored condition with R 6867 stamped in the back indicating this is the right hand side plate. The Grange was 6 miles from Newport Gwent.

Scrapped two years later at Woodham Bros, Barry. Oval cast brass face restored, measures 11.5in x 8in. Yorkshire Engine Company built 20 panniers under license from Hunslet and fitted only one Hunslet plate per locomotive. There are two different patterns for the different batches of 10 and we have one of each pattern in this auction. A rare plate.
