British Railways brass numberplate 61371 1948 ex LNER Thompson B1 4-6-0 built in 1948 by the North British Locomotive Company Glasgow. Due to a delay in delivery it was initially allocated to Lincoln in 1950 and then Cambridge and 31B March from wher e it was withdrawn in September 1962 and scrapped by Cashmore's (Great Bridge). Oval engraved brass face lightly cleaned measures 12.125in x 6.5in.
Worksplate AVONSIDE ENGINE CO BRISTOL 1523 1907 ex B3 0-6-0ST delivered new to the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board and numbered 7. Oval cast brass, in face restored condition, measures 14in x 8in. This is the large Two star Pattern Avonside pattern ra rely seen.
Worksplate LNER 9x5 LNER 4221 DONCASTER WORKS 1913 ex GNR Ivatt J6 0-6-0 numbered GNR 572, LNER 3572, 4221 and BR 64221. Allocated to New England, Hornsey and 38A Colwick from where it was withdrawn in January 1958 and scrapped. Oval cast brass face restored measures 9in x 5in.
Worksplate THE VULCAN FOUNDRY (LIMITED) NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS LANCASHIRE No 5530 1947. Ex LNER Thompson B1 4-6-0 numbered LNER 1172 and BR 61172. Allocated to Gorton, Eastfield and 62B Dundee Tay Bridge from where it was withdrawn in December 1965 and sc rapped at Shipbreaking Industries (Faslane). Oval cast brass measures 9in x 5.25in, face restored.
Worksplate VULCAN FOUNDRY 90513 BUILT 1945 ex Riddles WD 2-8-0 numbered WD 79245, LNER 3192 and BR 63192 and 90513. Allocated to Thornton Junction, Carlisle Kingmoor, Dunfermline Upper and 62A Thornton Junction from where it was withdrawn in July 196 2 and scrapped at Inverurie Works. Diamond shaped cast brass face restored, measures 13.25in x 5.625in. Note this is a Cowlairs cast plate.
Worksplate REBUILT BY THE MAKERS MANNING WARDLE & CO LTD No 881 LEEDS 1911 ex T class 0-4-0 ST. Supplied new when built in 1884 to Carlisle City Corporation Viaduct Gasworks and named Merry City, rebuilt 1911 and scrapped 1922, when works closed. Oval cast brass face lightly cleaned, measures 11in x 6.25in. The other plate from this locomotive is in the National collection.

Wagon plate MIDLAND RY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO LTD OWNERS BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND 42574. Cast iron Large sunburst pattern, measures 13in x 15in. In very good face restored condition with no repairs.
Shedplate cast aluminium 82A Bristol Bath Road. This aluminium code was used by diesel hydraulic and diesel electric locos. In original condition but with some white paint around the face and edges.
Shedplate 40F Boston 1948 to January 1964. This ex GNR shed had an allocation of 50 locos throughout the 1950s, and in its final year it had just 16 LMS 43XXX 2-6-0s. In original condition.
Shedplate 71A Eastleigh 1950-September 1963. This ex LSWR shed housed eleven King Arthurs and eight Lord Nelsons among its 1950 allocation of 140 locos. By the time it changed code to 70D in 1963, fifteen West Country pacifics were present in a total of 100 locos. Closure to steam came in July 1967. In face restored condition with typical Southern region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 70F Fratton April 1955 to November 1959, then Bournemouth September 1963 to July 1967.The ex LBSCR and LSWR joint shed housed just twenty locos while using this code. Ex LSWR shed Bournemouth was home to 40 locos including 7 Bullied Light P acifics and 9 Merchant Navies. In lightly face restored condition with correct casting marks to the front.
Shedplate 84E Tyseley 1949-September 1963. This ex GWR depot had well over 100 locos on its books during the time it used this code. It was transferred to the LMR and became 2A, finally closing to steam in November 1966. Face restored condition with clear Swindon casting marks to rear and edge.
Shedplate 36A Doncaster 1949-May 1966 to steam. This ex GNR shed had a handful of A3s and B1 Antelopes and Directors in its 1950 allocation of over 180 locos. By the end of steam it had also hosted 13 A1s and the ever present V2 namer 60872. Face res tored over original paint.
Shedplate 64F Bathgate 1949-August 1966. This ex NBR shed was home to around 40 locos in the 1950s. By 1965 this number was down to just 14, which included celebrity J36 65243 Maude. Lightly face restored rear original.
Shedplate 60A Inverness 1950 to June 1962. This ex HR shed maintained over 50 locos in 1959. It was to become totally dieselised in June 1962, when many class 24s carried the code well into the 1970s. Face restored rear original with the Scottish Dis trict shed casting pattern number etc.
Shedplate 67C Ayr 1949-October 1966 for steam. The ex G&SWR shed at Ayr was home to 60 locos in the 1950s, but within twelve months of closure this number was down to just 30. Some diesel shunters and DMU vehicles may also have carried this code. Face restored.
Shedplate 75B Redhill 1950-May 1965. This ex SECR shed was home to around 25 locos in the 1950s. Its final allocation of 18 BR standard 2-6-4Ts was moved away in early 1965, making this the final Central Division depot to close to steam. In as remove d condition with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 4B Swansea Victoria 1935-July 1950, then Northampton July 1950-March 1952. The ex LNWR shed at Swansea had 50 locos when using this LMS pattern code. It was then transferred to the WR becoming 87K. The ex LNWR shed at Northampton, formerly 2C, had 40 locos in the brief time it used this code. It later became 2E and finally 1H. An LMS style plate face restored.
Shedplate 6A Chester 1935 to June 1967. This ex LNWR shed had 50 locos during the 1950s. During its final years it was home to 13 ex GWR locos; one Jubilee and 2 Britannias for just one month and at one stage had 23 different classes of loco on its books! An LMS style plate face restored.
Shedplate 10A Springs Branch, Wigan 1935-February 1958, then Carnforth September 1963-August 1968. This ex LNWR shed at Wigan had over 50 locos during this period. The ex LNWR shed at Carnforth, formerly 11A and 24L, had just 3 Jubilees when it adopt ed this code, but it’s most famous charge was undoubtedly the last Britannia, 70013, which worked 1T57 on the final day of mainline steam. Face restored.
Shedplate 21A Saltley 1935-September 1963. This ex MR shed was home to almost 200 locos in the early 1950s. and by the time it was recoded 2E in 1963, it still had 100 locos on its books. It finally closed to steam in March 1967. Face restored.
Shedplate 70B Feltham 1950 to July 1967. This ex LSWR shed housed between 60 and 80 locos for most of its life; most notable being the ever present H16 4-6-2Ts. Face restored with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern R egion casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 84F Stourbridge Junction 1949-September 1963. This ex GWR shed was home to 85 locos in the 1950s, but by the time it was taken into the LMR as 2C in 1963 this number had dwindled to 35. The shed finally closed in July 1966. Partially face c leaned with clear Swindon casting marks to edge and rear.
Shedplate 82A Bristol Bath Road 1950 to September 1960 for steam. This ex GWR shed was home to around 100 locos during the 1950s. The star studded allocation included 6 Counties, 9 Stars, 21 Castles, 14 Halls and a solitary King in 1950. On becoming a purpose built diesel depot in 1960, some of its allocation carried these codes before the alloy version was introduced. Face restored, rear and edge with clear Swindon casting marks.
Shedplate 73A Stewarts Lane 1950 to June 1962. This ex SECR shed had an allocation of over 100 locos during this period. Of note were 7 King Arthurs, 6 Schools 13 Bullied Light Pacifics and 3 Merchant Navys. In June 1962 it was recoded 75D, and lost its steam allocation in September 1963. It is still a Repair and Maintenance depot for diesel and electric locos and a servicing point for steam locos. Face restored with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern Region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 73C Hither Green 1948 to October 1961 for steam. This ex SR shed was home to around 50 locos during the 1950s. It became home to Class 24 and 33 diesels, many carrying this type of code. Face restored with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern Region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 74C Dover 1950 to October 1958, then recoded 73H, closing in June 1961. This ex SR shed had an allocation of 70 locos, including 7 King Arthurs, 4 Schools, 4 Battle of Britains, and two Merchant Navys. Face restored with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern Region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 75A Brighton 1950 and closed to steam June 1964. This ex LBSCR shed had a 1950s allocation of around 75 locos, most notable being the Brighton Atlantics and a large number of the Schools 4-4-0s. A handful of West Country Pacifics were also maintained here. Face restored with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern Region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 75C Norwood Junction 1950 to January 1964 to steam, small allocation of diesel shunters until closure in 1966 In early BR days this ex SR shed had 40 locos, which was reduced to 18 in its final year. A small fleet of diesel shunters also c arried this code; 3 03s, 15 08s and 3 of their SR forerunners. Face restored with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern Region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 75E Three Bridges 1948 to June 1964. This ex LBSCR shed had 30 locos on its books in the 1950s, which dwindled to just 14 within a few months of closure. In restored condition with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast into the back and typical Southern Region casting marks on the front.
Shedplate 87C Danygraig 1949-January 1960 for steam, March 1964 totally. This ex R&SBR shed was home to an exotic collection of pre-grouping tank engines throughout it BR days when its total allocation was never more than 30 locos. Face restored with clear later style Swindon casting number U291 in the front.
Shedplate 87D Swansea East Dock 1949 –July 1964. This ex GWR shed had an allocation of 30 locos in early BR days. The shed was noted for its pre group 0-4-0 saddle tanks from the minor South Wales railways, and in a short spell in the winter of 1963 it was also home to 41535, 47003 and ex LYR pug 51218. Face restored with correct Swindon casting marks to rear and edge.
Shedplate 87E Landore 1949-closed to steam June 1961. This ex GWR shed had 70 locos on its books at the end of the 1950s, which included 20 Castles. Upon closure the depot was demolished and a purpose built diesel depot opened in 1963, when some loco s carried these plates before the introduction of alloy examples. Face restored with correct Swindon casting marks to rear and edge.
